Learning to Be Thankful: Kids in the Word

It's almost November, which means we're gearing up for the busiest season of the year. It seems like once November 1 hits, life goes on fast-forward. Before you know it, Thanksgiving has come and gone and Christmas is on it's way.

Too often, Thanksgiving gets lost in the shuffle. We spend one day eating turkey and talking about the things for which we're grateful, then we move on to the excitement of Christmas. That's why in this space every year, we spend November talking about being thankful. Everyday Truth becomes a family devotional meant to guide you and your family to focus on being thankful even in the midst of your busyness. I hope you'll join us starting next Friday.

Today, though, I want to introduce you to another tool for helping your family focus on being thankful. It's the Kids in the Word Be Thankful Bible study. This study is designed for all ages to spend some time learning the whats and whys of gratitude. It's got definitions of thankfulness, verses to study and a customizable journal to go along with the study.

The first section of the study encourages your family to understand the why, what and how of gratitude. It gives practical examples of what being thankful is, why we should do it and how we should do it. It encourages your kids to really understand that being thankful is an attitude that helps us grow closer to God, not just a few words that come out of our mouths when someone passes the salt.

The second half of the study focuses on things for which we can be thankful. This section is chock full of verses to study and questions to ponder. From God's character to the people around us, this part of the study encourages our families to look for things for which to be thankful.

The best part of this study, though, are the printable worksheets found at the end. You can customize a thankfulness journal for every member of your family, whether they are 3 or 83. Each day's worksheet comes in multiple formats from worksheets that include space to draw to ones that contain only lines for writing. In between are worksheets that contain space for both writing and drawing and worksheets that include traceable letters for each verse. No matter the age or stage of your children, you can find a worksheet that fits their developmental stage.

Each day's study includes instructions for journaling in your notebooks, which can then be shared with the rest of the family.  This study is suitable for any family whose kids are old enough to draw a picture, but it would probably work best with elementary to middle-school aged kids. Older kids will probably find the study a bit simple, but if you have kids of multiple ages, it's a great way to get the whole family working together on a study.

You can get the Kids in the Word Be Thankful study for the introductory price of $5.99 through Sunday. It's a downloadable book, which means you can easily print only those pages that you need. After Sunday, the price goes up to $7.99.

I'm thrilled to get to give away a copy of the Kids in the Word study. Enter to win below.
